Middle in the betting: essence of strategy

In this article we’re going to talk about one of the existing strategies on sports betting, which is called “Middle”. You will know what the betting middles mean, why they occur, how much you may earn from and how to catch them using the example of our scanner.

 

Middle – a situation where bets on both sides of one event may be winning, but at the same time, there is a possibility of losing some money if your bet doesn’t fall into the so-called “middle”.

 

Middles often occur in Live betting, where one of the bookies is quite slow to react to current events as a result of which the match favorite changes dramatically (penalty, corner, accurate throws, etc.). Another example may be a match in which an obvious favorite plays with outsider. It should be noted that “Middle” strategy is suitable for betting on total over/under, handicaps or other betting with quantitative indicators (number of corners, scored goals, violations, yellow or red cards, etc).

 

Let's consider an interesting example of emerged “Middle” in the match “Portugal - Colombia”, which is not marked in our scanner. Such cases are quite rare, but if you manage to notice it, then you will have an opportunity to earn some money.

So, in the event involved two bookies:

 

WinLineBet offers to bet on the outcome, in which one of the teams not to score (win to nil one of the teams or draw, for example: 0-0, 1-0, 0-2 etc.) with @1.85.
BetCity offers to bet on the outcome of TO (05) for the second team with @3.0. In this case, Colombia will have to score at least 1 goal.

 

Example of middle calculation:

In each of the bookmakers we have bet $100, that in the sum $200. We have specially made such stakes to demonstrate the potential losses from bets on the middle. Actually, you may bet $120 in WinLineBet and $80 in BetCity. Then you'll be in the black, despite the outcome. It is logical that the match “Portugal - Colombia” may end with the following outcomes:

 

No score: 0-0 (stake on WinLineBet wins as both teams haven't scored). In this case, you win $100x1.85 = $185. The result: $185 ± $200 = - $15 loss.

 

Draw: 1-1, 2-2, etc. (stake TO (05) on BetCity wins as Colombia have scored 1 or more goals). In this case, you win $100x3.0 = $300. The result: $300- $200 = $100 of net income.

 

Portugal wins: 2-1, 3-2, etc. (stake TO (05) on BetCity wins as Colombia has scored 1 or more goals). In this case, you win $100х3.0 = $300. The result: $300-$200 = $100 of net income.

 

Portugal wins to nil: 1-0, 2-0, etc. (stake on WinLineBet wins as one of the teams hasn’t scored). In this case, you win $100х1.85 = $185. The result: $185-$200 = - $15 loss.

 

Colombia wins: 1-2, 2-3, etc. (stake TO (05) on BetCity wins as Colombia has scored 1 or more goals). In this case, you win $100х3.0 = $300. The result: $300-$200 = $100 of net income.

 

Colombia wins to nil: 0-1, 0-2, etc. (Both stakes win as the match ended with Colombia wins to nil that satisfies the terms of both bookies). In this case, you win $100x1.85 + $100х3.0 = $485. The result: $485 - $200 = $285 of net income! This is our “Middle”.

 

As you may see, you get into the middle in case of win to nil of the second team (Colombia), and thereby, receive $285 of net income.
